Overview

Norfolk Probation Area is part of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS). We work with offenders throughout Norfolk, from our offices in Norwich, Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn, as well as in courts and prisons.

We provide pre sentence reports to help judges and magistrates choose the most appropriate sentence for offenders in Norfolk’s courts. We manage community sentences, running unpaid work projects, and accredited programmes aimed at addressing the root causes of offending behaviour.

We also run courses aimed at helping offenders into paid employment. We supervise prisoners, preparing them for release and supervising them while they are on licence in the community. We manage Norfolk’s most high risk offenders through the Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements, with our partners, including Norfolk Constabulary and the Prison Service.

We run one approved premises (hostel), where offenders with a residence requirement or those just released from prison must abide by a strict set of rules. We work with victims of serious crime, keeping them up to date with the offender’s sentence and ensuring their views are considered.

Our aims are: protecting the public; reducing re-offending; the proper punishment of offenders in the community; ensuring offenders’ awareness of the effects of crime on the victims of crime and the public; and the rehabilitation of offenders.
